Highball or Collins glass
Jigger or measuring cup
Bar spoon or regular spoon
Citrus juicer (optional, for fresh orange juice)
Knife and cutting board (optional, for garnish)
- 2 oz (60 ml) amaretto liqueur
- 4 oz (120 ml) orange juice
- 1/2 oz (15 ml) grenadine
- Ice cubes
- Orange slice and maraschino cherry for garnish optional
Fill a highball or Collins glass with ice cubes.
Pour in the 2 oz (60 ml) of amaretto and 4 oz (120 ml) of orange juice.
Give it a gentle stir to mix everything together.
Slowly pour in the 1/2 oz (15 ml) of grenadine along the inside of the glass. Let it sink to the bottom to create that beautiful sunrise effect.
Don't stir after adding the grenadine, or you'll lose those pretty layers! Garnish with an orange slice and maraschino cherry if you like, and serve right away.
- Use fresh orange juice if you can. It gives your cocktail a brighter, fresher citrus flavor.
- Always add the grenadine last. This helps create those pretty red-to-orange layers.
- Making drinks for a crowd? Mix the amaretto and orange juice in a pitcher using a 1:2 ratio. Pour into individual glasses filled with ice, then slowly add 1/2 oz (15 ml) of grenadine to each glass to get that sunrise effect.
