Cuisine American
- 2 oz bourbon whiskey rye works too
- 3/4 oz simple syrup
- 1/2 lemon cut into 2-3 wedges
- 6-8 fresh mint leaves
- 1 mint sprig for garnish
Step 1: Add your lemon wedges to a shaker. Muddle them firmly to release the juice and the oils from the peel (that’s where a lot of the flavor comes from). Step 2: Add the mint leaves. Give them a gentle muddle (just enough to release the oils, not tear them apart).
Step 3: Pour in your bourbon and simple syrup.
Step 4: Add ice, close the shaker, and shake hard for about 10 to 15 seconds. You’ll know it’s ready when the outside of the shaker feels cold.
Step 5: Strain the drink into a rocks glass with fresh ice. Double strain if you want a smoother drink without mint bits or pulp.
Step 6: Take your mint sprig and give it a quick slap between your hands (this helps release the aroma), then place it on top as your garnish.
