Equipment

  • Highball or Collins glass
  • Cocktail shaker
  • Jigger

Ingredients

  • 1 oz amaretto
  • 1 oz sloe gin
  • 1 oz Southern Comfort
  • 2 oz orange juice
  • Orange slice or wedge for garnish optional
  • Maraschino cherries for garnish optional

Instructions

  • Pour: Fill a cocktail shaker with ice, then add the amaretto, sloe gin, Southern Comfort, and orange juice.
  • Shake: Put the lid on tightly, then shake for about 15 seconds, or until the shaker feels cold.
  • Fill: Fill a highball or Collins glass with fresh ice.
  • Strain: Strain the drink over the fresh ice.
  • Garnish: Add an orange slice or wedge and a few maraschino cherries.

Notes

  • Freshly squeezed orange juice gives this drink the best flavor, but store-bought orange juice works well too.
  • This cocktail is sweet and stronger than it tastes. Add a little more orange juice if you want a lighter drink.
  • No cocktail shaker? A mason jar with a tight-fitting lid works in a pinch.
  • Serve your Alabama Slammer over ice in a tall glass, or strain it into shot glasses for a party-style version.
  • To make more servings, double or triple the ingredients. Mix everything in a pitcher, chill it, and pour over ice right before serving.
